Kylee J. McCarthy
My name is Kylee McCarthy. I am from Whitehall, MI, where I attended school from grades K-12 and received my high school diploma. I now reside in Allendale, MI where I currently attend Grand Valley State University and am a Mathematics and Education major with a minor in Elementary Certification and an emphasis in Elementary Education. I began attending Grand Valley State University in the fall of 2010 and will graduate in the spring of 2015. I have recently been admitted to the College of Education at Grand Valley, so I will begin my teacher assisting next semester.
In the past I have worked in various classrooms beginning at kindergarten and going through 8th grade. It began when I was peer assisting in high school for one of my classes. I would go over to a second grade classroom for an hour every day and work with students in all subject areas. It instantly became my favorite class in high school. That was when I knew what my future career would be and I have not regretted or doubted that decision every since. Entering college and beginning my courses in elementary education has allowed me numerous opportunities to work in the classroom or volunteer at a planned educational event put on by the school. For example, I have taught a geometry unit to about six 8th graders, tutored a few 2nd graders in reading, and volunteer and run activities of my choice at family math nights for various grades. I have enjoyed every experience I have had the opportunity to embark in and am so excited for my future as an elementary educator.
